Welcome to Aqua Cluster!

Aqua Cluster is a two-year loop program for Grades 6-7.  We are currently in the 6th Grade year of our 9th loop.

At the heart of the Aqua Cluster philosophy is the belief that each student is unique in his/her physical, social, and academic  development.  The cluster tries to provide the opportunity for students to learn from and with others during their two year experience in Aqua.  It fosters an environment where differing opinions are listened to and respected.  Self-respect and respect for others are key characteristics of the program.  Aqua teachers are facilitators of learning; they are model learners, who guide students in their exploration and share their enthusiasm for learning.

Homework Policy

The homework policy of the cluster corresponds to that in the BMS Handbook.  Generally, these are the highlights:

  • ASAP (After School Assistance Program) is available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays after school from 2:15-3:30 .  This time frame is made available to assist students who need help with homework, reviewing skills covered in class, writing, or any other academic need.  A late bus is available at 3:30 if needed.
  •
  • The purpose of homework is to review skills covered in class, prepare students for new concepts to be covered, or to elaborate on those topics already introduced.
  •
  • The average amount of homework for Grade 6 is between 60-72 minutes per night.  This may vary based on the circumstances of the week (testing, writing, etc.)
  •
  • No more than one night equivalent of homework is given over the weekend or long weekend.
  • No homework is due the day after school resumes from a weekend.
  •
  • No homework is scheduled during school vacations (other than long term assignments that might be assigned at least one week prior to vacation week).
  •
  • No tests after long weekend or weekend on the first day back.
  •
  • Homework is 10 % of each subject's grade.  If homework is late one day, 50 % credit will be assigned if turned in the next day.  No credit will be assigned if more than one day late.
