SOUND OFF ON SCIENCE

Sound Off On Science is a program designed to provide Barrington Middle School students with an opportunity to celebrate science,  sharing the excitement of their own discoveries through independent study or investigation. A public demonstration of their work will follow at the Middle School on  the evening of March 10th, 2011.

Participating students may:

·         Perform a demonstration on some scientific principle of interest to them.

·         Present labs or investigations as part of their current studies in science class.

·         Complete a project to be considered for the State Science and Engineering Fair.

APPLICATION INFORMATION
COMPLETED APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN 3/5/2011.

Students are required to complete an application for one of the following positions:

Production Assistant:  This position requires that the applicant possess outstanding organizational skills.  The person will assist staff in creating signs, posters, etc. for the various demonstrations to be held throughout the evening.  In addition, Production Assistants will server as "guides" for visitors to the event that evening, pointing out various locations and time schedules.  They will also help set up and break down presentations and assist presenters in obtaining materials throughout the evening.

Lab Demonstration:  This position requiures that the applicant possess a love for science and enjoy communicating with people.  The person (with the assistance of another student) will demonstrate various lab activities conducted in the classroom, explaining what happens and why. (Claims & Evidence) The demonstrations will occur every 15 minnutes for a period of four sessions.

Independent Project:  This position requires that the applicant(s) conduct a research project over several weeks for either the RI State Science Fair or as an independent study project on a selected topic of interest in science.  The person(s) will share their porjects with visitors and explain the procedure, results, and conclusions made based on their research.  Some students may be selected as entry participants in the RI State Science Fair to be held in February.
