Meet Our Staff - School Supports
Guidance: Lori-Jean Mason, masonl@bpsmail.org
Sandra McCauley, mccauleys@bpsmail.org
Natalie Stein, steinn@bpsmail.org
Guidance counselors at BMS remain a constant in students’ lives throughout their 3 years. We oversee all academic, social, emotional and behavioral aspects of our students’ experience. We meet with students individually and in groups, in planned meetings or at a moment’s notice. Our offices are always open to our students and their parents. We collaborate with parents, teachers and administrators, and consult with outside agencies and experts in order to enable our students to grow and develop their full potential. Some of our many other activities include helping students to discover their learning preferences and recognize their strengths, conducting career exploration lessons, planning high school classes and teaching students coping skills and social skills.

A school nurse’s role is one specializing in the health needs of all children in the school setting to support student learning. School nursing is a field of expertise with emphasis on wellness and prevention through health promotion and education for the school community. The school nurse works independently in the school setting to provide health care and education to the school community and needs strong skills in critical thinking, decision-making, communication, individual and classroom education, and child advocacy.
School Psychologist: Maggy Bell, MA, CAGS, bellm@bpsmail.org
The school psychologist functions with broad areas of responsibility to consult, educate, research, assess and intervene on behalf of the children with whom they work. The school psychologist provides services that meet the unique needs of the population being served. Specific services provided are based on a collaborative effort among parents, school personnel and the school psychologist. School psychologists utilize a variety of assessment tools and techniques in order to best determine a student’s intellectual or emotional functioning. School psychologists are skilled in the implementation of intervention strategies which can be designed to enhance educational performance as well as developmentally appropriate behavior. Within the consultation model, the school psychologist works collaboratively with parents, teachers, administrators and other professionals to positively influence the learning of all students.
