- *Historical fiction book - this must be a book you haven't read before- compare/contrast a historical event from your book with another in history or create a visual for display explaining your event and its long lasting effect on the country/world or create another idea and have me approve it before you proceed

- current events: select an article from online, a newspaper, or magazine; read the article and choose a way to share the information(summary, oral report, poster, PowerPoint, etc) - make connections to events/history, explain long-lasting effect

- do an in-depth research project on a topic in US history between early people and 1877 - choose a way to share what you learned  Choices = diorama, mobile, oral report, essay, poster, PowerPoint, etc

- create an annotated photo journal of a place in the US that you like or one that you've visited - include aspects of geography, economy, etc

- investigate further a topic from early peoples, explorers, colonies, Revolutionary War, or US government and make an illustrated children's book about it

- create your own activity about a topic in which you are interested - get your idea approved by me

**The LA/Reading independent book has now been assigned for the 2nd marking period. Students have an assignment to complete at home each week - due every Friday. Their book and packet must be brought to class each Friday.  All work must be in pencil.   

 

 

Welcome to US History! You will keep a book and cd at home all year to use.  However, if you are away from your book and have computer access, see the link below for the online code to use at www.glencoe.com  

Many assignments, study guides, etc are in the SS Document Library.

-Please check X2 weekly - it is the student's responsibility to make up missed work.

**During the 1st and 2nd marking periods, late work is given 75% credit.(BMS Homework Guidelines)

**Students are encouraged to stay after 2:05-2:35 Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays to work on  assignments.

- read a book of your choice that is different than your mystery book - get a thumb from my bulletin board and complete it - create a project to explain your book (diorama, mobile, oral report, essay, model, etc)

- compare a book we read or a story we read to another text (Venn diagram, poster, T chart, etc)

- do an author study - choose an author and present your findings to the class(Dr. Seuss, Cynthia Rylant, Jerry Spinelli, etc)
