Nayatt News Update 10.9.2020

Dear Nayatt Families,

Thank you so much for all of your cooperation and support with monitoring student symptoms daily and taking every precaution in keeping your child home if they are displaying symptoms.  We recognize that this is not easy and we appreciate your diligence and support.

We are reaching out to provide you with important contact information for families if you are participating in Distance Learning.  The chart provided identifies the key staff at Nayatt and their contact information.  It also contains links to technology resources.  We hope you find this resource helpful.

Nayatt Contact Information

  • Each Friday, we will send out the Nayatt News Update for the week ahead.

  • The Nayatt News Update comes in the form of an email and it is posted on the Nayatt School website.   Nayatt School Webpage  All events with dates are on the website.

  • Text or voicemails may be used as reminders for upcoming events.

Changes from In Person to Distance Learning and Vice Versa:

  • Students who are out sick or being monitored for covid symptoms may participate in Distance Learning, if they are able.

  • Parents should not be allowed to participate in Distance Learning at random.  This is carefully followed and documented and can be cause for an attendance investigation.

  • Try to email the office staff and the classroom teacher so we can mark your child, “virtually present” and make sure they can access the classroom.

  • Students who are on vacation or visiting family are considered an unexcused absence and will make up work on their return, this is district policy.

Official Changes to Your Child’s Learning Model:

If a change is requested to move from distance learning to in-person, please note that it may take up to two weeks for the plan to be implemented, as schedules, seating arrangements, and teacher assignments may need adjusting.

Please note that if your child is remaining home due to COVID Symptoms or is quarantined, you do not need to complete the Learning Model Change Request. The school nurse or secretary will work with you on using the Distance Learning options during that time.

Dismissal Changes/Who can walk home from Nayatt School:

  • Notes for dismissal changes must be provided.  For safety reasons, we require a written plan so we can confirm with both parties.  An email or phone call cannot be verified and your child’s safety is our top priority.

Walkers:

  • Only third graders at Nayatt School are able to walk on their own or bike on their own without parent supervision.  Send me a note that I can attach to your child’s dismissal staff and I will inform dismissal staff.

Special Education Subcommittee of the School Improvement Team:

As we begin this new school year, please consider serving on our Special  Education Task Force.  Each school in the district will form a task force to support strong and meaningful family/school partnerships and ensure that our programming is focused on individual student outcomes, results and students’ social and emotional well-being.  Task force members will provide feedback and share perspectives on special education related topics, draw attention to areas of concern and contribute to solutions.  The task force will develop, implement and monitor  building specific special education action plans that are aligned with school improvement planning.

  • Special thanks to Sarah Mycroft and Krista Carleton for their amazing development of an outdoor classroom.  Sarah has mulched, weeded, added flowers and more.  The outdoor environments are so pleasant for our children and teachers.
