What is New at BMS! 

(note: the following information is new)

8th Grade Fundraiser - Volunteers Needed:

Volunteers are needed for the upcoming 8th-grade field trip car wash fundraiser on Saturday, April 22 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at Ace Hardware in Barrington.  Parents do need to stay during the fundraiser to help.  Donations of posters and materials for the carwash are also needed and may be sent to the front office.  Click here for the informational flier.  Feel free to share this with friends!  Click here to sign up.  Thank you very much!   Email Dara Colacchio at with any questions.

Jackpot Raffle! 

Before the break, our BMS PTO sent raffle tickets home with all students (6th, 7th, 8th) to help support/fundraise for the 8th Grade Class Trip. The 8th-grade class trip to Washington, DC, has a fundraising goal of $10,000. To enter the raffle, families are encouraged to sell each raffle ticket for $20.00. Completed raffle tickets will be entered for a chance to win 3 cash prizes. 

  • 1st Prize: $1,000

  • 2nd Prize: $500

  • 3rd Prize: $250

Thank you in advance for supporting this exciting experience for our 8th grade. We hope to continue this longstanding tradition for our current 6th and 7th graders! 

Best Buddies Friendship Walk:

Please join the Barrington Middle School Best Buddies Team as we walk in support of Best Buddies' mission of inclusion!

Barrington Schools will have a table at the walk where we can meet up before the walk to chat and enjoy donuts, hot chocolate, and coffee :)

BMS Garden News: 

We are seeking volunteers for the following areas:

  • Monday 4/24 to help build a wooden fence for the garden- volunteers will be assisting with filling holes, stabilizing posts, securing chicken wire to frames, etc- 8:30 am- approx 10:30 am

  • regular garden maintenance- times are flexible

  • compost helpers- school cafeteria- 12:20 pm -1:30pm- days are flexible

BPS Volunteer Breakfast:

Barrington Schools appreciate our volunteers!  Join us this Thursday, April 20, 2023 between 9:00 am and 11:00 am at the Barrington Town Hall Council Chambers for a BPS Volunteer Breakfast.  Feel free to bring a friend!  We’ll enjoy breakfast, musical talents by BHS students, door prizes and more.  Children under school age are welcome.  Kindly RSVP to RSVP for BPS Volunteer Breakfast.

Family Learning Walk:

Monday, May 8 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am will be the last Family Learning Walk opportunity for the year. This is an opportunity for families to tour the building and see teaching/learning in action. Families may or may not see their own child’s classrooms.

If you are interested in attending this walk, please sign up here. (first-come, first-served basis). Space will be limited to 15 individuals per visit. A confirmation email will be sent to individuals confirming their participation.  

Barrington School Building Community Forum: 

The Barrington School Building Committee will be hosting a community forum at the start of the School Committee’s bi-weekly meeting on April 20, 2023. This is an opportunity for all members of the Barrington community to:

  • Learn about upcoming school building and renovation projects - including project purpose and planning timelines

  • Meet the new Project Manager who will be providing construction services expertise through the duration of this endeavor

  • Ask and receive answers to your questions 

When: Thursday, April 20 at 6:30 PM

Where: Barrington Middle School or virtually via livestream 

Who: All Barrington community members are encouraged to attend

“Day Without Hate” Peace Poster Party:

The Barrington High School Chain Reaction Club is organizing our annual “A Day Without Hate” on Friday, April 28. This day will be an incredible opportunity for every member of our community to come together to say that we will not tolerate violence or hate, and we will reach out to friends and acquaintances and say, "We're all in this together."

This year we once again want the entire district to be involved! On Thursday, April 27, the night before A Day Without Hate, all Barrington students, families and employees are invited to a Peace Poster Party in the BHS cafeteria from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. We will make posters to either hang up in the high school hallways, or bring back to their schools to hang the next morning.

BMS Spring Tennis:

BMS Spring tennis will be continuing fo the next few weeks.  All abilities and grade levels may sign up for any day (but please limit your student's sign up to one day per week).  We will be offering six weeks of tennis and each week will focus on a different set of skills culminating in some games between classmates.  There is no cost to participate! The first week will be all grade levels and then moving forward the groups will be separated by grade-level. There will be a new sign-up sheet in the Connected Newsletter each week so keep an eye out for that. Please reach out to Riley Spillane ( with any questions.

Drop-off/Pick-up Instructions:

If you choose to drop-off and pick-up your student from BMS, please see this map for directions.  Please note that the last early dismissal of the day is at 2:45 pm.

Early Pick-Up Reminders: 

Notes or emails to are needed every time you need to dismiss your student prior to the end of school.  Middle School level students are not allowed to bike home, even with permission by note.  ID and a physical presence is required to dismiss your student early.  Please click here for full details about dismissing your student early from school.

PTO Corner: 

Welcome to the new school year from the BMS PTO! We are excited for the new year and a return to many of the events and activities that have been missed over the past couple of years. Here are a few PTO updates to start off the year:

  • Join the PTO: Become a member of the BMS PTO for $20 through our BMS online store. Proceeds go directly to the school and PTO programs and membership is required to vote at PTO meetings.

  • Volunteers needed: We are in great need of volunteers for the board (President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary) and committees (Book Fair, Hospitality, Fundraising, One Amazing Night, Variety Show, 8th Grade Celebration). Barrington Youth Field Hockey:

The Barrington Youth Field Hockey League’s spring league is back! Players grades K-5 are welcomed and encouraged to sign up.  The league will be held on the following Sundays from 3:30-4PM: April 30, May 7, May 14, and May 21.  The cost is $65 per player (with scholarships available*) which includes a new ball for each player.  Spread the word!
