What is New at BMS!
(note: the following information is new)
Family Engagement Day: May 10, 2023
On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, from 8:00 am - 3:00 pm, BMS will be holding its Family Engagement Day. This will be an opportunity to sign-up for a time to come to school with your child and review your child’s academic portfolios and visit allied art classrooms.
This is not a day students will be attending school the entire day, but rather visiting the school with a family member for a block of time.
Please use the following links to sign-up for an hour block of time to visit the school with your child.
During your hour visit we ask that you do the following:
Note: It will be important that your child brings their charged device with them on May 10, 2023.
8th Grade End of the Year Celebrations:
I can’t believe we are just over a month away from the end of the 2022 - 2023 academic school year! With the end of the year quickly approaching, we wanted to share with you some of our year-end dates with our 8th Grade Families.
Please stay tuned for more information on these specific activities/events.
Please consider signing up for donations and volunteer options using the link below. We thank you for your consideration and support, as we would not be able to pull off these events without the help of our amazing families!
The BMS PTO sent raffle tickets home with all students in early April to help support/fundraise for the 8th Grade Class Trip. The 8th-grade class trip to Washington, DC, has a fundraising goal of $10,000. To enter the raffle, families are encouraged to sell each raffle ticket for $20.00. Completed raffle tickets will be entered for a chance to win 3 cash prizes. Please return your tickets by May 5th!
1st Prize: $1,000
2nd Prize: $500
3rd Prize: $250
Thank you in advance for supporting this exciting experience for our 8th grade. We hope to continue this longstanding tradition for our current 6th and 7th graders!

BMS Spring Tennis:
BMS Spring Tennis is continuing for the next few weeks. All abilities and grade levels may sign up for any day (but please limit your student's sign up to one day per week). There will be six weeks of tennis total (this is the sign-up for week 5) and each week will focus on a different set of skills culminating in some games between classmates. There is no cost to participate! There will be a new sign-up link in the Connected Newsletter each week so keep an eye out for that. You must sign-up each week if you are interested. Please reach out to Riley Spillane (email@example.com) with any questions.
Panorama School Survey is Coming:
The District is seeking your feedback to celebrate our successes and identify areas for growth so we can work to create the best learning and working environment for our students and staff. The Spring Panorama survey for students, staff and families will begin on May 15th and be open until May 31st.
By taking a few minutes to complete the Spring ‘23 Panorama Family Survey you will be providing us with essential feedback about the climate and culture of each of the BPS school(s) that your child(ren) attends. Once the survey is complete, the results will be analyzed by district administration, building leaders, and school improvement teams to inform school goals and actions.
Thank you for your continued support in the continuous improvement of our schools. Please contact your building principal if you have any questions concerning the survey.
If you would like to opt your student out of taking the survey, please complete the form here.

Welcome to the new school year from the BMS PTO! We are excited for the new year and a return to many of the events and activities that have been missed over the past couple of years. Here are a few PTO updates to start off the year:
BMS Spotlight on Learning
Let’s Celebrate our Amazing Learning Community!
(note: below you will find our standing/weekly BMS Spotlight on Learning)
This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Ms. Cotnoir, Ms. Friedman, Mr. Magee, Ms. McPhearson, and Ms. Spillane for organizing and hosting this year’s BMS dodgeball tournament. BMS pride was on full display this past Friday, with over 20 teams playing and packed bleachers filled with fans. Great work Purple Cluster teachers!
This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Andy Anderson. I was standing behind him at the checkout in Shaw’s last weekend and I saw a woman fall like she was fainting. Luckily, Andy was standing behind her in line and he demonstrated quick thinking and care as he caught her and prevented her from hitting her head on the concrete floor. A fainting spell could have turned into severe head trauma had Andy not been behind her! Thank you, Andy! (nominated by a BMS parent)
Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
