BMS Newcomers Program:

Is your family new to the Barrington Middle School Community?

If you have recently moved to Barrington or your child has transferred to Barrington  Middle School from another school district or from a private school, check out this opportunity!

We know how overwhelming it can be for kids to change schools.  To assist in this transition, we are offering newcomers groups for students during the school day to orient them to what BMS has to offer.

I am in the process of checking in with all newcomers and giving them a form for parents/guardians to review.  If you’d like your student to participate, your son/daughter may be eligible to participate in a newcomer’s group, as available. I look forward to connecting with you. In the meantime, feel free to reach out with any questions or concerns:

New Volunteer Orientation:

If you are a new volunteer in any Barrington Public School, have completed a BCI, and have

never attended a Volunteer Orientation in our district, it is required that you do so prior to

volunteering. Please plan to attend one of the following New Volunteer Orientation sessions:

Tuesday, October 4:  BMS - 6:00pm

Thursday, October 6:  Sowams - 9:00am

Friday, October 7: Primrose - 9:00am

Tuesday, October 11:Nayatt - 9:00am

You may attend any orientation. It does not have to be at your child’s current school.

If you are unable to attend a scheduled session, you must contact Barrington Public Schools

Volunteer Coordinator, Anita DiMatteo (DiMatteoA@barringtonschools.org) to schedule an orientation.

Commissioner’s Visit:

This past Tuesday, Commissioner Infante-Green visited Barrington Middle School and awarded the school with the Green Ribbon Recognition. This is a great recognition for the entire community as it highlights the work and investment that has gone into making BMS an energy-efficient, high quality learning environment. Please view some pictures below highlighting Commissioner Infante-Green’s visit.

The students featured in this picture represent our Community Service Club, Student Council, Climate Change, and Garden Club.

Commissioner Infante-Green visits Mr. Blasi’s Science class, as students were conducting a lab focusing on the importance of data and observation.

PTO Corner:

Welcome to the new school year from the BMS PTO! We are excited for the new year and a return to many of the events and activities that have been missed over the past couple of years. Here are a few PTO updates to start off the year:

  • Join the PTO: Become a member of the BMS PTO for $20 through our BMS online store. Proceeds go directly to the school and PTO programs and membership is required to vote at PTO meetings.

  • Volunteers needed: We are in great need of volunteers for the board (President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary) and committees (Book Fair, Hospitality, Fundraising, One Amazing Night, Variety Show, 8th Grade Celebration). Please email barringtonmiddlepto@gmail.com if interested or with any questions with no pressure to commit.

  • Join us for our 1st PTO meeting of the year Tuesday 10/4 7-8 pm: There will be a BCI check-in from 6-6:30 and new volunteer orientation 6:30-7 prior to the meeting. We will vote on the new board and budget as well as give an overview of what's to come for the school year. The meeting will be in-person with an option to join via zoom as well.

Let’s Celebrate our Amazing Learning Community

(note: below you will find our standing/weekly BMS Spotlight on Learning)

BMS Spotlight on Learning:

This week, we would like to shine our BMS Spotlight Reagan Pires and Samantha Drury. While leaving school on Friday afternoon, Reagan and Samantha came to the rescue to help Mrs. Texeira and Mr. Henderson. Mrs. Texeira was packing her car to bring food to Tap-In (Thank you, Mrs. T) and several apples fell out of a box and rolled through the parking lot. Reagan and Samantha got off their bikes and helped both teachers pick up the apples. They were the only two among a handful of students to stop and help. While it may have seemed like a small deed, it was a great show of kindness and support. Thank you Reagan and Samantha for spreading your kindness.

This week, we would also like to shine our BMS Spotlight on Barbara Nozaki. Every morning Mrs. Nozaki brings the positivity with her dj and dance skills. One of the first encounters of students and families is Mrs. Nozaki’s enthusiastic greetings and catchy tunes. This gets the day started on the right foot for everyone. Thank you, Mrs. Nozaki, for always bringing the energy, passion, and fun starts each day!

Do you know of a BMS Faculty/Staff/Student member that is shining bright? If you do, please complete the form below and we can include the nomination in an upcoming newsletter.
